The Power of 24-Hour Telemedicine

As our society continues to evolve through modern technological innovations, we as humans have adapted to do things in ways that better fit into our increasingly demanding schedules. One way in which we have begun to change the way we live our daily lives is through the implementation of telemedicine and telehealth. Although early forms of telemedicine emerged in the 1960s, it was only recently that countries such as the United States had the broadband infrastructure to support telemedicine on a large scale. In particular, telemedicine gained popularity during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. There are numerous reasons why telemedicine is beneficial but today, we would like to provide two reasons why 24-hour access to telemedicine could be a game-changer.

First, telemedicine is available when most healthcare providers and urgent care are closed. The accessibility of telemedicine is critical to note because, unfortunately, our bodies do not understand the concept of business hours. We can feel unwell at times when a trip to the emergency room would be inconvenient or even impossible. Telemedicine is accessible during these times, allowing for immediate advice from healthcare professionals. The accessibility provided by 24-hour telemedicine is powerful and should be valued.

Access to Resources
Before telemedicine, everyone was limited to the healthcare provided within certain geographical locations. Seeing a sought-after specialist could sometimes mean driving long distances or sometimes even boarding a plane. Telemedicine eliminates the need for traveling to gain access to specialists entirely. Instead, specialists can be accessed with the click of a button. A charged laptop and a stable internet connection can allow anybody to access healthcare professionals they would have otherwise not been able to see.
